Who isn’t looking for “La Dolce Vita” somewhere in the Mediterranean!!!
Sun, sea, countryside, mountains, great food and wine and perhaps most importantly, somewhere to switch off!!! If this is something that you have been thinking about for a while, maybe there aren’t many better places to experience this than Le Marche, Italy.
Great weather 2/3 of the year, stunning and varied countryside; beaches, rolling hills topped with historic villages, and a breath-taking mountain range.
Very friendly people, but don’t forget to say ‘Buongiorno’ to everyone you pass as you stroll around the worderful towns and villages. They are helpful and very eager to help with whatever you want, especially if you try to speak Italian.
Laidback lifestyle as you would expect, what else!! Sit and enjoy a nice espresso or cappuccino outside a local bar and watch the old men play cards or later on have a prosecco while you watch the local’s parade in their best outfits for the ‘Passeggiata’. Swim or sunbathe, ski or hike in the stunning mountains plus practically any other sport you fancy.
Fresh seasonal foods, here you can see the locally grown produce being unloaded outside shops and supermarkets – no air miles involved here. Drive into the countryside and you can buy fruit and veg picked that morning. Wander through the local markets and buy your lunch or supper.
What can one says about restaurants!! Pasta, pizza? Of course but, Le Marche are famous its fish close to the Adriatic and the game closer to the mountains – venison, wild boar etc. Delicious and so very reasonably priced.
Its vast range of high quality locally produced wines it’s never ending. If you haven’t tried yet, some of the great white or red from Le Marche, let me give you some tips!!! Among the whites, you must enjoy, a good Verdicchio, or why not a Passerina or even better a Pecorino!!! On the red side, don’t step back if you can get a nice Marche rosso IGT, Rosso Piceno Superiore or Conero, and for special occasion only, an unforgettable experience with a bottle of Kurni.
Culture, where can one start!! Raphael, the Crivelli brothers, superb artists, Giacomo Leopardi, one of the greatest Italian writer and Rossini, one of best Italian composer were born here and the open air Arena at Macerata holds incredible summer open air Opera. But don’t neglect local theatres and concert halls either where you can enjoy excellent performances.
I could go on and write about, its museum, architecture, churches, but I think if you enjoyed what you have read so far, perhaps a visit sometime in the near future, might be something that you won’t regret!!
